SEVERE WEATHER ALERTS

IMPACT-BASED

Extreme high fire danger conditions are expected in places over the Northern Cape, the central and western part of the Free State as well as over the western parts of the North-West Province. ADVISORIES – A. Heatwave conditions with persistently high temperatures are expected over the eastern parts of the Northern Cape, North West, Free State, Gauteng, as well as the south-western Bushveld of Limpopo until Tuesday (12/03/2024). B. Extremely hot and uncomfortable conditions are expected in places over the Namakwa District of the Northern Cape, the West Coast District and the interior of the Western Cape. These conditions are likely to improve in the west, but persist until Tuesday over the eastern interior of the Western Cape.

PROVINCIAL WEATHER OVERVIEW

GAUTENG PROVINCE

–

1. Very hot in the extreme north, otherwise partly cloudy and hot with isolated afternoon thundershowers. The expected UVB sunburn Index Extreme

MPUMALANGA PROVINCE

– Cloudy in places in the morning with fog patches on the Highveld and escarpment, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated afternoon thundershowers, except in the Lowveld where it will be very hot.

LIMPOPO PROVINCE

– Cloudy in places in the morning in the east, otherwise partly cloudy and hot to very hot with isolated afternoon thundershowers in the south and south-west.

NORTH-WEST PROVINCE

– Fine and hot to very hot, becoming partly cloudy with isolated showers and thundershowers in the central and eastern parts.

FREE STATE

– Fine and warm to hot but very hot in places over the central parts. It will become partly cloudy in the east with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers.

NORTHERN CAPE

Warm along the coast where it will be foggy in the morning, otherwise fine and hot to very hot. The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong south-easerly.

WESTERN CAPE

Cloudy and cool along the south coast and adjacent interior in the morning, otherwise fine and warm to hot, but very hot over the West Coast District interior and Central Karoo. The wind along the coast will be moderate south-easterly to easterly along the south coast, otherwise fresh to strong southerly to south-easterly. The expected UVB sunburn Index Extreme

WESTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE

– Cloudy with fog patches over interior at first, otherwise fine and hot, but very hot in places in the north. It will be warm along the coast. The wind along the coast will be moderate south-westerly, becoming light south- easterly in the evening.

EASTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE

– Cloudy with fog patches in places south of escarpment at first, otherwise fine and warm to hot, but partly cloudy along the coast. It will become cloudy with a chance light rain along Wild coast in the evening. The wind along the coast will be moderate north-easterly at first, otherwise moderate south-westerly, becoming moderate south-easterly in the afternoon.

KWAZULU-NATAL

– Fine and warm to hot, but very hot in the extreme north-east. It will become partly cloudy in the afternoon with isolated showers and thundershowers in the west and the south.
