IMPACT-BASED

WARNINGS

Yellow level 2 for severe thunderstorms resulting in strong gusting winds, large amounts of small hail and heavy downpours leading to damage into infrastructure, formal/informal settlement, localized flooding in low lying areas, flooding on roads are expected over the southern parts of the Free State and the northern interior of the Eastern Cape. FIRE DANGER

WARNINGS

– Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the central parts of the Northern Cape, the Dr Beyers Naude Local Municipality in the Eastern Cape and the eastern parts of the Western Cape. ADVISORIES – Heatwave conditions resulting in persistently high temperatures are expected in places east of Northern Cape, North-West Province and Free State, except the extreme east until Saturday.

PROVINCIAL WEATHER OVERVIEW

GAUTENG PROVINCE

– Partly cloudy and warm with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers, except in the extreme north where it will be hot. The expected UVB sunburn Index Extreme

MPUMALANGA PROVINCE

– Cloudy over the Highveld in the morning and evening, otherwise partly cloudy and hot with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers over the Highveld.

LIMPOPO PROVINCE

Cloudy in the east in the morning, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot.

NORTH-WEST PROVINCE

– Fine in the east at first, otherwise partly cloudy and hot to very hot, with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the south-west.

FREE STATE

– Fine in the east at first, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot, with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the central and western parts. It will be windy in the extreme south.

NORTHERN CAPE

Partly cloudy, windy and hot to very hot, with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the extreme north-east. It will be warm in places over the central parts. The wind along the coast will be Moderate to fresh south-westerly becoming light in the evening.

WESTERN CAPE

Partly cloudy and cool to warm in the west with isolated to scattered rain and showers over the south-western parts from the afternoon where it will be cloudy, otherwise fine and warm to hot over the interior. It will become cloudy along the south coast by the evening. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-westerly but strong in the south-west becoming south- westerly in the evening. The expected UVB sunburn Index Moderate

WESTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE

Cloudy with morning fog in places along the coast, otherwise partly cloudy and very hot to extremely hot with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers but scattered in the north. The wind along the coast will be Moderate to fresh south-westerly.

EASTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE

Partly cloudy and hot to very hot with scattered afternoon showers and thundershowers, but isolated in places south west. The wind along the coast will be Fresh south westerly, but strong at times.

KWAZULU-NATAL

Partly cloudy and hot to very hot with scattered afternoon showers and thundershowers in the west, otherwise isolated, except in the north-east. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-easterly becoming strong to near gale between north of Durban in the afternoon. The expected UVB sunburn Index Extreme
