SEVERE WEATHER ALERTS

IMPACT-BASED

WARNINGS

– A. Orange level 9 warning for disruptive rain resulting in widespread flooding of roads and settlements, danger to life due to fast flowing streams and deep water, large communities not accessible/cut-off for prolonged period and widespread damage to property, building and loss of livelihoods and livestock as well as transport routes and travel services severe affected is expected over the Overberg and the southern Cape Winelands. B. Orange level 6 warning for disruptive rain resulting in possible damage to roads and bridges is expected over the City of Cape Town, Swartland, and Witzenberg municipalities in the Western Cape. C. Orange level 6 warning for severe thunderstorms with possible heavy downpours leading to flooding of susceptible areas, low-lying areas and bridges, formal and informal settlements, resulting in closure of some bridges and roads, disruptions in municipal services, are expected over the north-western interior of the Eastern Cape, as well as over the extreme eastern parts of the Northern Cape, extreme western parts of North West and the Free State. D. Yellow level 4 warning for wind and waves leading to difficulty in navigation at sea, is expected between Saldanha Bay and Plettenberg Bay. FIRE DANGER

WARNINGS

Nil. ADVISORIES An intense cut-off low is expected over the province from today to Tuesday. The public is advised that disruptive rain, localised flooding, strong winds and cold conditions can be expected in places over the Eastern Cape, especially the northern parts of the province.

GAUTENG PROVINCE

– Cloudy and cool with scattered showers and thundershowers. The expected UVB sunburn Index High

MPUMALANGA PROVINCE

Morning fog along the escarpment, otherwise cloudy and cold to cool with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers. It will be warm in the Lowveld.

LIMPOPO PROVINCE

– Cloudy and cool to warm with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers.

NORTH-WEST PROVINCE

Cloudy, windy and cool with widespread showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the extreme east.

FREE STATE

Cloudy, windy and cool, with widespread showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the extreme east where it will be cold.

NORTHERN CAPE

Partly cloudy to cloudy, windy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered to widespread in the east. The wind along the coast will be light and variable, becoming moderate to fresh northerly by late afternoon.

WESTERN CAPE

– Partly cloudy in the north-west, otherwise cloudy and cool to cold with scattered to widespread showers and thundershowers. The wind along the coast will be gale southerly to south-easterly along the south-west coast, but fresh to strong easterly to south-easterly along the south coast becoming light and variable in the east from the afternoon. WESTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE

Cloudy and cool with widespread showers and thundershowers, but scattered along the coast. It will be cold in places over the interior. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-easterly, but light west of Oyster Bay, becoming moderate south-westerly in the afternoon, spreading to Algoa Bay in the evening.

EASTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE

– Cloudy and cool with widespread showers and thundershowers, but scattered along the coast. It will be cold in places over the interior. The wind along the coast will be moderate north-easterly but strong offshore.

KWAZULU-NATAL

Cloudy and cool with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered in the extreme west. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-easterly. The expected UVB sunburn Index Low

Orange level 6 warning for disruptive rain resulting in roads flooding and settlements (formal and informal), danger to life due to fast flowing streams/deep water and displacement of affected communities and damage to property, infrustructure, loss of livehoods and livestock is expected over the City of Cape Town, Swartland, and Witzenberg municipalities in the Western Cape.

Orange level 6 warning for severe thunderstorms with possible heavy downpours leading to flooding of susceptible areas, low-lying areas and bridges, formal and informal settlements, resulting in closure of some bridges and roads, disruptions in municipal services, are expected over the northern interior of the Eastern Cape, as well as over the extreme eastern parts of the Northern Cape, western and central parts of North West as well as over the southern and central parts of Free State Province.
